Luisa Baldinger, "Impermanence", an Installation.  Video.

This five-piece basin sculpture was completed in 2016 and installed in a stream in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristos near Santa Fe, New Mexico.   Integrating creation with nature and showing the persistence of water to reform our surroundings, this work of art shows the fragility of our environment and the effect of water to change it. Over the course of the winter, the freeze/thaw nature of water turned these five basins into shards.  With the spring melt, it is anticipated that the shards will be carried downstream and eventually turn into sand, a fitting reminder of the impermanence of everything.
